中山大学理学学士和理学硕士、伦敦政治经济学院人口学硕士、美国华盛顿大学（University of Washington）地理学博士。现任复旦大学人口研究所所长、社会发展与公共政策学院教授、博士生导师。研究成果发表于China Quarterly、The China Journal、Journal of Contemporary China、The China Review, Population and Development Review、Population Research and Policy Review、Urban Studies、International Journal of Urban and Regional Research、Cities、International Habitat、Regional Studies、International Regional Science Review、Geofourm、Environment and Planning A、Post-communist Economies、China Economic Review、《社会学研究》、《人口研究》、《中国人口科学》等SSCI英文期刊和中文权威核心期刊。主持国家社科基金项目、教育部人文社科规划基金项目等国家级和省部级项目多项，获中国人口科学优秀成果奖、钱学森城市研究学金奖、上海市哲学社会科学优秀成果（学科学术类）论文类二等奖等奖项。
