Dr. Xu Tang holds a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences from the School of Physics, Peking University, a Professorial Senior Engineer at the Fudan Development Institute (FDDI) and the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences/Institute of Atmospheric Sciences (AOS/IAS), and a Doctoral Supervisor at the Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP). He serves as the Executive Director of the International Center of Excellence (ICoE) of the Integrated Research Program on Disaster Risk (IRDR-ISC/UNDRR) at Fudan University and as a Senior Scientific Advisor to the International Program Office (IPO) of the IRDR, a member of the WMO Working Group on Air Quality and Health (ARCH/GAW) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a member of the Disaster Risk Management Committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO-CDMR), a member of the Alliance for Water and Disaster Management under the leadership of the United Nations High-Level Group of Experts and Leaders (AoA/UN-HELP). He also serves as the Focus Point of the WMO/IGAC International Programme for Air Quality Monitoring, Analysis and Forecasting (MAP-AQ) to the Environment and Humanitarian Assistance Network (EHAN) of the Joint Environment Unit (JEU), jointly established by the United Nations Office for the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). From 2013 to 2019, Dr. Tang served as Director of the WMO Weather and Disaster Reduction Services Department (WDS), where he was responsible for organizing and coordinating the implementation of six major scientific and technological programmes.
