ABSTRACT
Recent years have seen increasing engagement of China in the Middle East (ME), which has aroused regional and global attention regarding the appropriate roles China may play in the ME, especially in a context of declining US influences in the region. This lecture examines the challenges and prospects of China’s relations and role in the Middle East/Gulf States. While China globally stretches its economic and cultural influences, its global strategies and capabilities are different to the old powers, determining that its relations with the ME will not copy existing models.
