Statement of Purpose
China and Arab countries are important global players and are actively pursuing national and global development agendas. China has risen to global prominence through sustained efforts, while Arab countries, within their varying national contexts, have been seeking proper governance to suit their development agendas and join the globalization trends. Besides the strong cultural and political ties between China and Arab countries, bilateral cooperation in economic, social, S&T and other areas has been developing rapidly in recent decades. In response to complex and urgent challenges in global governance, China and Arab countries have become strategic, equal and constructive partners.
To facilitate the much needed knowledge sharing, policy coordination, and joint talent cultivation between China and Arab countries, Fudan University hosted the first China-Arab Forum on Global Development and Governance in 2023, which attracted enthusiastic participation from scholars and practitioners of both ends and generated important mechanisms for future collaboration. To extend this tradition, Fudan University will host the second Forum in the November of 2024.
The theme of 2024 Forum is Public Sector Innovations and South-South Cooperation: China and Arab Perspectives. As both China and Arab countries are seeking modernization of their national governance systems, there is a lot to compare, to learn from each other, and to explore potential areas of cooperation and coordination. There are many governance issues of common challenges and interests such as administrative reforms, financial accountability and capability, anti-corruption, intergovernmental relations and cross-sector cooperation, civil service and public services, and digital governance. There are also common policy challenges such as climate adaptation, economic transition, urban rejuvenation, technological innovation, poverty alleviation, sustainable development, and social equity. Effective innovation and cooperation are key to the success in responding to these issues, and may bring about new insights for theories and practices of public policy and administration.
This Forum invites both scholars and practitioners to submit paper and panel proposals. We encourage submissions that employ a comparative approach and address theoretical, methodological, or empirical issues related to the theme of the Forum.
Please submit a paper proposal to fudan_arab@fudan.edu.cn by September 10, 2024. Please include in the submission the research question(s), theoretical framework and/or empirical exploration, methodological approach, and preliminary findings, plus a one-paragraph author bio and contact information. To submit a panel proposal, please have a brief statement of the panel and detailed above information of each paper in the panel.
We will notify authors of accepted proposals ASAP and by the middle of September.
