From January 21 to 28, 2025, with the support of the LSE-Fudan Research Centre for Global Public Policy, Professor Shiping Tang visited the London School of Economics (LSE) for an academic exchange, engaging in in-depth discussions with LSE scholars on international development topics.
Professor Tang delivered two academic lectures at the Department of International Development, offering insights into new perspectives in international political economy and contributing to both theoretical innovation and practical advancements in the field.
During his visit, Professor Tang participated in a public dialogue with former Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Ali Allawi. Their discussion explored the economic development challenges faced by Global South countries and current development strategies of emerging economies. The event sparked lively discussions and attracted an audience of approximately two to three hundred attendees.

In addition, Chris Gilson from the LSE Phelan US Centre interviewed Professor Tang, and the conversation was featured in a podcast episode. The podcast covers a wide range of topics, including Professor Tang’s research in social sciences, U.S.-China relations, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, international relations and global order, as well as ecological development.You can listen to the episode at:

Professor Tang also visited the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London, where he gave an academic lecture on the economic development of the Global South and offered new perspectives in international political economy.
This academic exchange at LSE not only expanded and deepened the collaboration between Fudan University, LSE, and other UK academic institutions, but also laid a solid foundation for future research and cooperation. The series of events promoted the ideas of Chinese scholars, amplifying their presence in the international academic community and contributing to an enhanced reputation and influence for China in the field of international political economy, thereby strengthening its soft power.
This visit was part of the high-level academic exchange program between Fudan University and LSE, supported by the LSE-Fudan Research Centre for Global Public Policy.
