IGPP Chair Professor Evan Berman got the Outstanding Book Award by ASPA

Recently, the Personnel and Labor Relations Section of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) announced the winners of the 2023 Outstanding Book Award, and IGPP Chair Professor, Evan Berman, received the award. The book Performance and Innovation in the Public Sector: Managing for Results co-authored by Professor Evan Berman (Taylor & Francis, 3rd Edition) received the 2023 Outstanding Book Award.

This award, established by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), aims to reward outstanding works that have made significant contributions to the field of public personnel management, have a profound impact on public administration, and promote knowledge innovation and progress in practice.


Profile of Prof. Evan Berman


Evan Berman is Chair Professor at IGPP and an internationally renowned professor in the fields of public performance and management, comparative public management and public HRM. He spent 15 years in Asia-Pacific, received his Ph.D. at George Washington University (USA), and joined Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Sao Paulo, Brazil) in 2020.  Evan is recipient of major research and received awards, including the Fred Riggs Award for lifetime career achievements in International and Comparative Public Administration and the Distinguished Research Award, jointly awarded by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and the Network of Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA). A creative mind and studious leader, his current research interests focus on strategic management in national governments, international practices for increasing the diffusion of innovations, and strengthening employee resilience in the public sector. He has published many articles in all of the leading international journals in public administration, 15 books and is a co-author of the leading textbook “Human Resources Management in Public Service” (Sage 2021, 7th ed). He has worked with government ministries and agencies and serves on editorial boards of journals and as journal editor.
