Young Scholars Workshop on Public Administration and Management in a Global Perspective Was Successfully Held

On March 16, the Fudan Institute for Global Public Policy held a workshop for young scholars on public administration and management in a global perspective. Professor Yijia Jing, the Dean of the Institute for Global Public Policy, introduced Emeritus Professor Tom Christensen from the University of Oslo, Norway. 

Professor Christensen is an academician of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and an outstanding scholar in the field of international public administration. He has had 40 years of teaching and collaborative experience in China. Professor Christensen's keynote speech focused on the prerequisites for pursuing research as a career and eventually having a fulfilling profession. He discussed the main challenges of academic writing and how to write research articles for international journals. His speech was insightful and provided valuable inspiration to the young scholars attending the workshop.

During the paper presentation session, Associate Professor Lingyi Zhou from the School of International Relations & Public Affairs at Fudan University delivered a presentation titled How Does Value Co-destruction Happen? The Application of Artificial Intelligence in Elder Care Services. Assistant Professor Ziteng Fan from the Fuan Institute for Global Public Policy presented a paper titled Bring in Horizontal Interactions: Blame Avoidance and Bandwagon Strategy in E-participation. Following that, Dr. Qianli Yuan from the School of International Relations & Public Affairs gave a presentation on Human-Centric Design in Applications for Emergency Preparedness and Response in Rural Communities: the Case of the E!App. Assistant Professor Xing Chen presented a research titled Building Trust through Institutions and Process: The Causal Effect of E-Government on Political Trust. Dr. Chenyang He the Institute for Global Public Policy, delivered a research on From Marketization to Agency Reclassification: A Longitudinal Study of De-agentification with Qualitative Comparative Analysis.” Finally, Ph.D. candidate Wenxue Fan from the School of International Relations & Public Affairs presented a research titled Balancing the Public Service Supply and Demand Sides in Digital Public Services Delivery: From the Perspective of Administrative Burden.”

After each scholar's presentation, Professor Christensen shared his views and provided improvement suggestions. Professor Christensen pointed out that young scholars in China excel at using various complex analytical methods but often overlook the theoretical logic of their research, unnecessarily complicating simple issues. He advised scholars to focus on fundamental theories and research logic while simplifying their research methods. This workshop not only provided a platform for scholars to exchange academic perspectives and experiences but also offered a valuable opportunity to explore cutting-edge issues in the field of public administration.
