On March 20, the Fudan Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP) organized the 5th lecture of the Fudan-Arab Lecture Series. Professor Chun-yuan Wang from Taiwan Police College delivered a lecture on the topic of The Psychological Resilience Implications and Applications in Global Public Management. The lecture was chaired by Professor Yijia Jing, the Dean of the IGPP. Chun-yuan Wang is a professor in the Police Administrative Division and the Director of the Center for General Education at Taiwan Police College. His primary research areas include crisis management, strategy, and performance management. He published papers in journals such as Public Administration and Society and Public Administration Review.
Professor Wang introduced the concept of resilience by reviewing the historical evolution of the field of crisis management and the recovery from two natural disasters in Taiwan. With the improvement of the economic and social development level, the meaning of resilience has expanded from focusing on individuals' ability to deal with crises, stress, and adversity in their mental or emotional well-being to the establishment of collective psychological resilience. Professor Wang pointed out that the goal is not to create a society without adversity but to build a society that is not afraid of dangers, where collective psychological resilience supports us from setbacks. In practical applications, Professor Wang provided insights for human resource management in police organizations by examining the psychological resilience of police officers regarding role conflicts and job burnout.
During the Q&A and comments session, Professor Ping Zhang from the School of International Relations & Public Affairs at Fudan University provided a detailed commentary on the lecture. Professor Xu Tang, the Director of the Institute of Risk and Disaster Reduction at Fudan University, and Assistant Professor Lei Sun from the School of International Relations & Public Affairs at Fudan University also gave comments.
