On June 6, 2025, the Institute for Global Public Policy at Fudan University (IGPP) and the Treccani Institute signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), officially launching in-depth cooperation between the two parties in culture, education, and research. Dean Yijia Jing of IGPP and General Director Massimo Bray of the Treccani Institute signed the MoU on behalf of both sides.
During the meeting, Dean Jing first warmly welcomed Director Bray. He emphasized that culture and civilization serve as the foundation for deep mutual understanding and cooperation among humanity. Dean Jing hoped that through innovative collaboration, both parties could jointly participate in and expand the China-Italy cultural cooperation mechanism, promoting mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations. He cited Italian President Sergio Mattarella’s statement during his 2024 visit to Peking University that “the essence of civilization lies in mutual nourishment,” and referenced the renowned Chinese sociologist Xiaotong Fei’s classic view: “Each appreciates its own beauty, appreciates the beauty of others, and beauty shared brings harmony to the world.” These remarks underscored the vital role of civilizational dialogue in global governance. Professor Jing expressed his hope to build on the momentum of the “China-EU Dialogue on Culture and Global Governance,” jointly organized by IGPP, the Treccani Institute, and the German-Italian Centre for the European Dialogue on May 26, to further deepen rich and diverse cultural exchanges and cooperation with the Treccani Institute.
Director Bray highly praised the collaboration, noting that the partnership with Fudan University and IGPP is especially timely as 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the Treccani Institute’s founding. As one of Italy’s most influential cultural institutions, the Treccani Institute is dedicated to advancing the Italian government’s policy of promoting cultural openness. It looks forward to deepening Sino-Italian cultural exchange and fostering mutual cultural understanding through this cooperation.
According to MoU, the collaboration will focus on the cultural sector, promoting innovative Sino-Italian cultural cooperation and research, advancing humanities exchange and talent development. This includes conducting research and publications in both digital and non-digital formats for the public in both Chinese and Italian; organizing advanced training courses and academic events; providing internship and practical training opportunities for students; and hosting Sino-Italian cultural-themed exhibitions both online and offline.
The signing ceremony and cooperation intention discussions were attended by He Wei, the Treccani Institute’s China representative; Assistant Dean Haoqi Qian of IGPP; Assistant Professor Yi Wu at the School of Philosophy and Institute of Arts; Wenqin Dai from Fudan University Press; and Mei Hong, a representative of Hong Kong’s Xinhua Group. Moving forward, the IGPP will serve as the primary platform for advancing cooperation between Fudan University and the Treccani Institute, supporting cultural and creative institutions both on and off campus, and promoting deeper Sino-Italian cultural exchange and collaboration.
