On June 11, 2024,the Fudan Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP) organized the 57th lecture of the Fudan-LSE Lecture Series. Professor Ying Ding from the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin delivered a lecture on the theme of Power, Leadership and Diversity, which was chaired by Professor Yijia Jing, Dean of the IGPP.
Professor Ding pointed out that power is expressed through collaboration, leadership is the key to cohesing a team and pointing the team in the right direction, and diversity provides the team with diverse skills. Professor Ding explained the practical significance of scientific team management. Through the introduction of a comprehensive study of hundreds of teams from different academic fields on team formation and team performance, she demonstrated that flat team structures, heterogeneous shared leadership, and rich diversity are different paths to team success.
During the Q&A session, Professor Li Tang from Fudan School of International Relations and Public Affairs and Dr. Meijun Liu, assistant professor of the IGPP, provided detailed and insightful commentary on the lecture. Scholars in attendance engaged in lively academic discussions on topics such as the measurement of team leadership ability and the role of large language models in teams.
