From May 31 to June 8, 2024, the Fudan University delegation led by Fudan President Professor Li Jin visited Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, and met with the Association of Arab Universities, the League of Arab States, and partner universities to discuss deepened cooperation. Professor Yijia Jing, Dean of the Fudan Institute for Global Public Policy, participated in the visit.
On June 2, the delegation visited the Association of Arab Universities. President Jin and Professor Amr Salama, Secretary-General of the Association, reviewed the recent cooperation progress between the two sides, and reached a consensus on holding the 2nd China-Arab Forum on Global Development and Governance at Fudan University this year. Professor Jing and Professor Walid Salameh, Senior Advisor of the Association, discussed establishing an IGPP liaison office in the Arab region, promoting scholar exchanges, research collaboration, joint fundraising, and implementing the China-Arab 10+10 University Cooperation Plan.
During their visit to Jordan, the Fudan University delegation visited the University of Jordan. President Jin and University of Jordan President Nathir Obeidat discussed cooperation in various areas. During the meeting, Professor Jing exchanged views with Professor Hasan Almomani, Dean of the Prince Abdullah II School of International Studies at the University of Jordan, on establishing a dual degree program. The delegation also visited Mr. Chuandong Chen, the Chinese Ambassador to Jordan.
On June 4, the delegation visited the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, Egypt. Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and President Jin engaged in in-depth exchanges on further deepening and expanding the strategic partnership between the two sides. Both parties recognized that the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum held on May 30 marked the best period in China-Arab relations, and pledged to work together to promote innovative cooperation between the League of Arab States and Fudan University, aiming to set a model for China-Arab higher education cooperation. Subsequently, President Jin and Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, further discussed the next steps for cooperation between the two sides, and signed an action plan to promote the implementation of a series of cooperative projects.
During the meetings, Professor Jing introduced the professional design of the IGPP's degree programs to Secretary-General Gheit, and reported in detail to Ambassador Ghazaleh on several projects to be implemented by IGPP this year. The visit was accompanied by Counselor Chunsheng Lu and Mr. Xiaohan Pan from the Education Division of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt.
Subsequently, Professor Jing held a working meeting with Mr. Farraj Alajmi, Director of the Education Department of the League of Arab States, and Mr. Faisal Swedan, Deputy Director of the Training Department, to discuss specific matters such as the short-term training program, the recruitment of the IMPA program, the China-Arab Youth Summit, and the internship program for Chinese students. Consensus was reached on these issues.
During the visit to Cairo, the delegation paid a visit to Ambassador Liqiang Liao of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt and also conducted a visit to Cairo University. During the visit to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, Professor Jing participated in the meeting between President Jin and President Tony F. Chan, as well as the signing ceremony between the two universities. Professor Jing also exchanged views with representatives from research teams in fields such as life sciences, plant science, computer science, and sustainability. Prof. Mei Tian, Executive Dean of Human Phenome Institute of Fudan University and Prof. Jing delivered two lectures upon the invitation of the host.
