On August 27, 2024, the Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP) of Fudan University held its opening ceremony for the 2024 graduate students. Faculty members and over 40 new students worldwide attended the ceremony. In addition to Chinese students, this year's cohort included international students from Egypt, Pakistan, Poland, Germany, France, Colombia, the Netherlands, the United States, Myanmar, Japan, Sudan, Yemen, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Dr. Wenyan Tu, an Assistant Professor and student counsellor hosted the ceremony.
Professor Yijia Jing, the Dean of the Institute, warmly welcomed the incoming domestic and international students. He encouraged them to proactively adapt to their studies and life at Fudan University and in Shanghai and explore the rich academic and development resources offered by the Institute and the University. He also hoped that Chinese and international students would integrate well, learn from one another, and progress together.
Following the Dean's welcoming remark, faculty members Dr. Meijun Liu, Dr. Ziteng Fan, Dr. Yunxiong Li, Dr. Wenyan Tu, Dr. Haoqi Qian, Dr. Jingyuan Xu, and Dr. Xin Ye introduced their research fields and the courses they offer. Then, student representatives from both domestic and international backgrounds briefly shared their thoughts. Xiaochuan Guan, a Chinese student in the Master of Global Public Policy program, shared her excitement about joining the school, highlighting her interest in the Institute's international exchange platform and its academic research support. She looks forward to learning and progressing together with her peers. Colombian student Julian Londono del Castillo, from the LSE-Fudan dual master's degree program in Global Social Policy, spoke about his deep interest in Chinese culture and public management practices. He is eager to have more interactions and exchanges with his peers and faculty and is excited to engage in interdisciplinary studies and cultural activities at Fudan.
To help new students better adjust to life at Fudan, the Institute organised a series of orientation activities, including two Campus Tours on August 27 and August 30. These tours familiarised new students with the main functional areas, landmark buildings, and key facilities on the Handan main campus, helping them quickly navigate the campus and its surrounding environment. This allowed them to easily manage various on-campus tasks while immersing themselves in Fudan University's rich history and campus life.
During the orientation week, program directors from different degree programs organised program-specific orientation sessions. These sessions provided new students with detailed information about curriculum plans, course requirements, thesis processes, and advisor selection, laying a solid foundation for their academic journey ahead.
