On November 28, 2020, Mr. Marcos Prado Troyjo, President of the New Development Bank (NDB), was invited to the Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP) of Fudan University and LSE-Fudan Research Centre for Global Public Policy. He held a dialogue with scholars and students both offline and online.

The topic of that event was “Global Economy: opportunity and challenge.” Professor Yijia Jing, Dean of IGPP, chaired the dialogues. Yingyao Chen, Professor and Vice Dean of School of Public Health; Chun Ding, Professor of School of Economics and Director of the European Institute; Yutao Wang, Professor of Department of Environmental Science and Deputy Director of the Tyndall Center; and Yu Zheng, Professor of School of International Relations and Public Affairs, had an in-depth academic dialogue with Mr. Macros Troyjo in the fields of public health, economic development, environmental policy and global development.

In the second part of the dialogue, Mr. Macros Troyjo shared with Chinese and international students his view on the topics such as BRICS cooperation, NDB’s mission and development model, new development concepts, etc.

Mr. Macros Troyjo, an economist, political scientist and diplomat, was appointed as President of the NDB in May, 2020. After receiving a doctorate in international relations from the University of São Paulo, he served as Director of the BRIClab at Columbia University, where he taught international and public affairs, and lectured extensively at universities and research centers around the world. Mr. Marcos Troyjo successfully accomplished a multifaceted career in government, business, academia and policy consultation. Mr. Troyjo authors books on development, technology and global affairs. His book Trading Nation: Power & Prosperity in the 21st Century was chosen by Americas Quarterly as one of the best new books on policy, economics and business in the hemisphere in 2007. Furthermore, He once served as Brazil’s Deputy Economy Minister and Special Secretary for Foreign Trade and International Affairs and represented the Brazilian Government on the boards of multilateral development institutions.

IGPP keeps close communication with the New Development Bank. During the Shanghai Forum in May 2019, the Institute invited the former President Mr. K.V. Kamath to Fudan University and held a closed-door academic seminar as well as a public academic lecture. In October 2020, Professor Jing and his colleges visited the NDB and talked with Vice President Mr. Anil Kishora on issues of future cooperation. The visit of Mr. Macros Troyjo will further advance the cooperation between Fudan University and the New Development Bank.
