On October 27, 2024, as the autumn breeze signaled the changing season, the Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP) at Fudan University organized an exciting autumn outing to Zhujiajiao Ancient Town. This event aimed to foster communication and understanding among students through creative team activities in the culturally rich Jiangnan ancient town while offering a much-needed break from their busy academic schedules.
During the bus ride, students were randomly divided into five groups, each comprising members from different countries, breaking language and cultural barriers. The host gave a brief introduction to the itinerary and safety precautions, sparking anticipation among all. Upon arrival at Zhujiajiao, the eager participants dashed toward the various checkpoints, immersing themselves in the serene and historic charm of this water town.
At Yongan Bridge, students struck their favorite poses for group photos with the time-honored structure. Outside Apo Teahouse, they captured the unique experience of meeting strangers and taking photos together, preserving the joyful and aromatic moments in the teahouse’s setting. Jiangnan’s First Teahouse served as a perfect location for vlogging. Here, teams showcased their names and slogans, recording these precious memories on video. The Helong Art Gallery captivated participants with its artistic ambiance. Students admired exquisite artworks and posed creatively for photos, aligning their gestures with the museum's artistic vibe.
At Yongfeng Bridge, students recited classical Chinese poems, and their voices echoed across the bridge, as if engaging in a dialogue with the town's history and centuries-old traditions. The majestic City God Temple and the picturesque The Corridor Bridge also left a lasting impression. At these locations, students engaged in imaginative group photos, adding a playful touch to the cultural landmarks. Finally, at The Garden of Inseparable Hearts, students gathered in a circle to sing melodious tunes and record videos, spreading positive energy through their voices and smiles.
After the day’s activities, everyone enjoyed a dinner together on the third floor of Danyuan. Each group sent representatives to present highlights from their adventures for votes. The event concluded with awards for categories such as Best Adventurer Award, Laughter Machine Award, Team Spirit Award, Unlimited Creativity Award, and Best Photographer Award.
The outing not only allowed participants to experience the beauty and cultural heritage of Zhujiajiao Ancient Town but also strengthened bonds among IGPP’s international and domestic students through fun challenges and teamwork. It was a joyful and memorable day for all.
