THE SPEAKER
Enrique Garcia is President of the Board of the Council on Foreign Relations of Latin America and the Caribbean. He served as the Executive President of CAF – Development Bank of Latin America from 1991 to 2017. He was Minister of Planning for Bolivia between 1989 and 1991, and held senior positions at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for 17 years. He was Bolivia’s Governor at the World Bank, and at the Inter-American Development Bank. He is a senior board member at various research institutions including Canning House, The Inter-American Dialogue, The World Economic Forum, the Brookings Institution, the Woodrow Wilson Center, Georgetown University, and the London School of Economics, where he also serves as Visiting Professor in Practice in the International Relations Department.
ABSTRACT
Prof. Enrique Garcia will discuss the increasing importance of regional development banks in mediating the uncertainties of the current global economic situation. Drawing from his experience as President of the Development Bank of Latin America for over 25 years, Prof. Garcia will also provide invaluable insights for new institutions like the New Development Bank (NDB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
