Launch Ceremony of the Fudan Institute for Global Public Policy and the LSE-Fudan Research Centre for Global Public Policy

On 26th May 2019, The Shanghai Forum Roundtable “Global Public Policy: Effective Supply of Public Goods in an Era of Globalization ” hosted by Fudan Institute for Global Public Policy was held in Siyuan Hall, Guanghua Tower, Fudan University. Meanwhile, it was the time for the Launch Ceremony of the Fudan Institute for Global Public Policy and the LSE-Fudan Research Centre for Global Public Policy. Mr. Xu Ninsheng, President of Fudan University and Mr. Brendan Smith, Director of LSE East Asia jointly announced the official establishment. Mr. Chen Zhimin, Vice President of Fudan University and John Edwards, British Consul-General Shanghai and Sofiane Sahraoui, Director General of International Institute of Administrative Sciences attended the Lauch Ceremony. Many famous experts and scholars of the global universities or institutes from all around the world came here to attend the meeting and witnessed the historical event. Among them, there were not only the representatives from London School of Economics and Sciences, but also scholars and officers of Fudan Unversity. 

After the Launch Ceremony, it was the Roundtable Conference addressed by eniment scholars. Professor Simon Glendinning, Head of European Institute, LSE presented “National and International Political Institutions in an Era of Globalisation”. He proposed that the technical and technological interaction among states profoundly affects the public space, and may influence the power of political authorities and elites, as well as the set up of electoral democracy and party politics which are currently being questioned. Associate Professor Jin Keyu from department of Economics, LSE gave the lecture named “China Writes Global Financial History” which she showed data and diagrams to prove that China and the United States are now more than 30 percent integrated in the financial sector. By joining the MSDI index and other practices, China keeps linking its own financial market with the global market. Later, Professor Xue Lan, Dean of Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University addressed his topic “Adaptive Governance in the Development of Emerging Industries” which he mentioned the booming development of the fourth Industrial Revolution is bringing great challenges against governance. Therefore, facing the challenges posed by emerging technological industries, regulatory framework needs to be “adaptive” to face the uncertain costs, risks, and payoff of governance. It needs to be transformed to better balance multiple objectives, shape mutual learning and dependence between regulators and innovators.

Generally, there were twelve topics refers to different research area of Global Public Policy during the Roundtable conference, which refers to the Role of Think Tank, Global Education Partnership, the Global Social Policy, the Ways to Provide Public Goods, Public Governance, etc.
