On 27th May 2019, Mr. K.V.Kamath, the president of New Development Bank addressed his lecture named “New Development Bank, New Development Solutions” at Room 102, Guanghua Towers, Fudan University. The host was Professor Jin Yijia, Dean of Institute for Global Public, Fudan Unviersity and the discussants were Professor Alvaro Mendez, Co-director of Global South Unit, LSE and Professor Chen Yuan, School of Social Development and Public Policy, Fudan University. Many Scholars from other famous international institutes came to attend the lecture.
At the very beginning, Professor Jin Yijia introduced the resume and career background of Mr. K.V.Kamath. He is the President of the New Development Bank (NDB) founded by the BRICS nations. He was the former Chairman of ICICI Bank, India's largest private sector bank and of Infosys Limited, one of India's largest technology services companies. Mr. K.V.Kamath is an excellent banker who owns rich experiences on development bank and financial industry. He has been a Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos.
In this lecture, Mr. K.V.Kamath described the long history of multiple development bank and the establishment background of NDB. After the World-War II, multiple development banks played crucial role in promoting the developing countries and keeping globally economic stability. Moreover, Mr. K.V.Kamath elaborated what was the definition of “New” in the NDB from three parts including the background of establishment, organizational frame and the way of financing. And he emphasized that the NDB would follow the mutual respect and complementary principle with other multiple banks.
Lastly, the discussants Professor Alvaro Mendez and Professor Chen Yuan made their comments separately. And teachers and students from Fudan University enjoyed the discussion a lot.
