British Consul General Matt Burney Visits Fudan University

       On November 4, 2024, Mr. Matt Burney, the British Consul General in Shanghai, visited Fudan University to attend the 3rd "Fudan-LSE Annual Academic Conference." President Li Jin of Fudan warmly welcomed Mr. Burney and his delegation.

       President Jin expressed a warm welcome to Mr. Burney, noting that since the cooperation agreement was signed between Fudan and LSE in 2016, the collaboration has advanced significantly. Fudan also maintains strong partnerships with other UK universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Edinburgh, and Nottingham. He thanked the British Consulate in Shanghai for its ongoing support for the Fudan-LSE collaboration.

       Mr. Burney thanked Fudan for the invitation and congratulated the successful opening of the 3rd "Fudan-LSE Annual Academic Conference." He described the Fudan-LSE partnership as a model for Sino-British academic cooperation and expressed the British Consulate's willingness to assist Fudan in strengthening UK collaborations.

       Attendees to the meeting included Chen Zhimin, Vice President of Fudan, Li’an Lu, Director of the Office of Global Partnerships, Yijia Jing, Dean of the Institute for Global Public Policy of Fudan, Benjamin Griffin, Political Consul at the British Consulate General, and Xizhe Peng, Bingchun Meng, Andrew Street, and Timothy Hildebrandt, members of the LSE-Fudan Research Centre for Global Public Policy Board.

       After the opening ceremony, Mr. Burney conducted a visit to the Institute for Global Public Policy and the LSE-Fudan Research Centre for Global Public Policy, learning about their developments in multiple fronts.
