The 1st Workshop on the Development of IMPA Program Held at IGPP Fudan University

       On November 23, 2024, the inaugural International Master of Public Administration (IMPA) Program Development Symposium was successfully held at Fudan University. Organized by the Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP) of Fudan University, the symposium focused on the current status, challenges, and future development of IMPA programs in China.

       During the opening session, Yijia Jing, Dean of IGPP, warmly welcomed the attendees and briefly explained the motivation for initiating the IMPA Program Development Symposium. He emphasized that as China continues to take center stage on the global stage, Chinese universities must seize the opportunity to develop innovative talent cultivation programs in global governance to address globalization challenges and build a talent training system with global competence. Chunkui Zhu, a member of the National MPA Education Steering Committee and Director of the MPA Steering Committee at Fudan University, emphasized that the IMPA program is an integral part of MPA education and a significant milestone in the internationalization of public administration education in China.

       Jun Lu, Vice Dean of the School of Government at Peking University; An’an Yang, Director of Academic Affairs at the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University; Peng Liu, Director of the MPA Education Center at Renmin University; and Qiushi Wang, Vice Dean of the School of Political Science and Public Administration at Sun Yat-sen University, each introduced their respective institutions' IMPA programs. Yijia Jing then provided a concise overview of the foundation and development plans for the Fudan IMPA program.

       In the afternoon, a free discussion session allowed participants to engage in in-depth dialogue on experiences, challenges, and future directions for IMPA program development. Participants unanimously agreed that there is significant potential for the development of IMPA programs and stressed the importance of increased collaboration and exchange among universities. They expressed a shared commitment to using this symposium as a starting point to strengthen horizontal connections, share high-quality educational resources and opportunities, and elevate the IMPA program to a premier platform in the field of public administration for cultivating global governance talent.
