Time:2026-05-21

On April 25, 2026, the Academic Seminar on Thesis Writing of Master of Public Administration (MPA), hosted by the Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP) at Fudan University, was successfully held. The seminar was chaired by Associate Professor Haoqi Qian from IGPP. Associate Professors Ziteng Fan and Meijun Liu, Assistant Professor Wenyan Tu, and Postdoctoral Fellow Tingzhong Huang served as thesis advisors. Thirteen MPA students participated in the seminar.

Associate Professor Qian introduced the purpose of the seminar, emphasizing that it was designed to address key stages of MPA thesis writing, including topic selection, research design, theoretical application, and academic writing standards. Through structured presentations and expert feedback, the seminar aimed to enhance students’ academic capacity and practical competence, thereby improving the overall quality of the MPA program.

During the presentation session, MPA students drew on their professional experience to present on topics such as urban freight overloading regulation and local government financial supervision. Each student introduced their research background, research questions, theoretical frameworks, methodologies, case materials, and preliminary findings in detail. Faculty advisors provided in-depth feedback on each presentation, affirming that the students demonstrated strong ability to identify meaningful and practice-relevant public management issues from their work contexts and to analyze them using relevant theories and methods. The reviewers emphasized the need to further strengthen the integration of public administration theory, align the research more closely with disciplinary paradigms, and engage more directly with both theoretical and empirical debates in the field. These comments provided clear guidance for further revision and improvement of the theses. Students noted that the seminar was highly beneficial and intellectually stimulating.

IGPP serves as the MPA training unit of Fudan University. It enrolls 30 MPA students annually, regularly organizes academic forums for MPA cohorts, and encourages participation in broader academic and professional activities hosted by the Institute, providing comprehensive resources to support students’ academic and professional development.
